Languages of Morocco

Moroccans move easily between several languages in a single day. Understanding the mix helps with travel, signs and conversation.

Arabic and Amazigh

Modern Standard Arabic and Amazigh (Tamazight, written in the Tifinagh script) are the two official languages under the 2011 constitution.

Darija

Moroccan Arabic (Darija) is the everyday spoken language, with its own vocabulary and Amazigh, French and Spanish influences.

French, Spanish and English

French is widely used in business, education and signage. Spanish is common in the north, and English is increasingly used by younger people and in tourism.
